Event Description
Please join us at the next COME TO THE TABLE event on Saturday evening, November 15:  Voices from the Classroom

This event will feature two Marin City students  who will join the following adult educators to discuss their experiences with education.

Vanessa Burnside is a passionate and innovative leader who strives to create change and increase opportunities for youth.  With some 20 years of experience in education, she currently serves as Chief Impact Officer at 10,000 Degrees, a Bay Area non-profit that supports students from low-income backgrounds to achieve college success and realize their full potential. Her focus is to maximize the organization's impact and reach through thoughtful strategic planning, strong partnerships, and effective, data-driven innovations.

Jewell Barrow In her nearly 50-year career at Mill Valley’s Tam High (her alma mater), Jewel Barrow was an advocate for and champion of all students. In 2021, the school district recognized her dedication to Tam students by renaming a campus building Barrow Hall in her honor. First hired in 1968, Jewel mentored thousands of students, and was considered an invaluable resource for classroom teachers, as well as the connective link between the Marin City community and Tam High.

ELLEN FRANZ, who taught

visual arts and elementary

school for 42 years, believes

strongly in keeping students

and their learning and creative

lives at the center of everything.

Ellen spent the last 19 years

of her career in the Sausalito

Marin City School District and

eight of those years as the dis-

trict’s art teacher for grades TK

to eight. She got to work with

every single child in school, she

noted. She also spent several

years working in professional

development, coaching teachers

and working with candidates in teacher preparation programs.

As you know the dinner at 5:15 fills up quickly so please sign up as soon as possible. We have more capacity at the Speaker Forum at 7pm after the dinner so attending is generally not an issue. You can register to attend both of these events on our website:
