Event Description

Back in May, Come to the Table (CTTT) hosted a forum as part of our monthly community outreach events that was titled, “What’s History Got To Do With It?” focusing on the interesting history of Marin City. It was such a popular event that there were many requests from the community to continue the dialogue. On November 9th part two is titled, “Our Shared History: How We Became Neighbors.” Pastor Floyd Thompkins of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and creator of CTTT, describes the night like this: “Marin City's story is one of resilience and triumph. This month, Come To The Table will focus on the complex and important story of how the residents of Marin City and people from other areas of Marin County became neighbors. CTTT will provide a platform for those who have lived this story to share it in their own words, through first-hand accounts of how they found the strength and courage to build connected and thriving lives within Marin City and Marin County. Their stories will be put into context by the broader historical narrative of African-American migration patterns within the United States and specifically within Marin City dating back to the 1940s.”

The great civil rights leader, Martin Luther King, stated what was true of America back in 1960s and what is more true than ever both in Marin and the greater United States today:

"We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."

Martin Luther King, Jr.
